The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the amount of energy you need while resting in a temperate environment during the post-absorptive state, or when your digestive system is inactive. In such a state, your energy will be used only to maintain your vital organs, which include the heart, lungs, kidneys, the nervous system, intestines, liver, lungs, sex organs, muscles, and skin. If you sat in bed all day long and didn’t move a muscle, this is how many calories you’d burn. The BMR decreases with age and increases with muscle mass.
With this skill, you can easily keep track of your BMR and plan workouts accordingly to stay healthy. To calculate your BMR, input your age, gender, height and weight, when prompted by Alexa.
Currently, the skill accepts weight in pounds or kilograms based on the user selection. Consequently, the unit of height is either feet and inches or centimeters based on the unit of weight. For example, you can say my weight is 67.4 kilograms or to say in pounds simply say 155.3 pounds when prompted. Similarly, to say height simply say “I am 5 feet 7 inches” or to say in centimeters, you can say, “My height is 159 centimeters”.
The Age input is a number, for example you can say "I am 26 years old" when prompted for age. And the Gender input accepts Male or Female. You can say "I am a male/female" when prompted for gender.
BMR is calculated using the Mifflin - St Jeor equation, which is the most accurate BMR formula. We must keep in mind that there isn't any BMR calculator that is 100% accurate because your body is constantly changing on a day to day basis. If you are injured for instance, your body will be working harder to help repair that injury and as such, you will be burning more calories because of it.
