With Alexa, BMW Connected is literally coming home. The skill is a companion to the BMW Connected mobile app, so once you’ve successfully linked the skill to your BMW Connected account, please say “Alexa, ask BMW for help” to further explore the features supported with your specific car model.
Use Alexa to manage your schedule by asking when you should leave for your next trip. Check your battery charge status and time remaining until fully-charged. Start your journey in comfort by switching on the climate control in advance. Remotely unlock your car using a PIN, or keep it secured by locking the doors without lifting a finger. You can also visualize select commands sent to your BMW in the Alexa app.
The BMW Connected skill is optimized for 2014 BMW models and later, and currently supports interaction in English and German.
Once enabled, you can ask questions or give commands such as:
Alexa, ask BMW…
What is my next trip? When should I leave for my next trip? What time is my next appointment? Send my next trip to the car. Activate the climate control. Lock the doors.
For certain vehicle models, you can also ask:
Is my BMW locked? Are my windows up? What’s my fuel range? Is my sunroof closed? Is my trunk locked? Are my windows closed? Unlock my car. (New!) What is my battery status? (New!) How long until my battery is completely charged? (New!)
Please note:
• The BMW Connected skill currently only supports users in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. • Only one BMW vehicle per ConnectedDrive account can be used with this skill. If you have multiple vehicles linked to your account, Alexa will sync with the vehicle that is currently selected and visible on the “Vehicle” tab in your BMW Connected app. • You can check what specific commands are available for your vehicle via the Alexa page within the BMW Connected app (accessible from the “Hub” tab). • Alexa will send remote service commands to your vehicle, but will not currently confirm the completion of those commands. If performing a lock or unlock command, you can make a follow-up request to ask Alexa if your doors are locked or unlocked. If a remote command is not successfully completed, for certain phone models you will receive a notification from BMW Connected making you aware of the failed attempt. • Remote services are not available while your vehicle is in motion or when car location services are interrupted. • For security reasons, you can choose to temporarily block all commands from Alexa to BMW Connected, or block just the unlock command. This can be done at any time via a toggle on the Alexa page within the BMW Connected app. • To contact BMW customer support, please visit the “About and Contact” page in the BMW Connected app to locate the correct phone number for your country.
