The latest development in Amazon’s partnership with LGBT charity Stonewall means you can now find out how to Come Out For LGBT simply by asking Alexa.
She’s got suggestions for ways to raise funds for Stonewall. Advice on how you can be an active ally to LGBT people by listening and reporting abuse. And she can tell you exactly why you should be coming out for LGBT. She’ll even answer questions about her own sexuality – but only if you ask her nicely.
It’s just one of the thousands of skills Alexa has – but this one has the ability to change hearts and minds. To change the lives of LGBT people. You might be thinking that things have moved on. Everyone’s on board with equality and diversity, right?
Well, no.
The Stonewall report LGBT in Britain, based on YouGov polling found that one in five LGBT people (21 per cent) have experienced a hate crime or incident due to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the last 12 months. That figure rises to two in five (41 per cent) for trans people.
And hate crimes are on the up too; the last five years has seen an increase of 78%. In reality, the figure is probably even higher as 81 per cent of people who experienced a hate crime didn’t even report it to the police.
Acceptance without exception is still a long way off. Which is why Alexa had to speak up. And why you should too.
Stonewall and Alexa are ready to show you how you can Come Out For LGBT. All you have to do is say ‘Alexa, ask Stonewall how I can Come Out For LGBT’.
“Alexa, ask Stonewall what come out for LGBT means.”
