Residents of the London Borough of Harrow can use their Alexa device to make voice-based enquiries about the bin collection service.
They can ask questions about which waste bin (general, dry recycling, food, or garden) is next on their schedule for collection, and they will be told on which day the collection crews are coming.
In addition if a scheduled collection has been missed, they can find out reasons why. For example if their bin contained the wrong material, or the wheelie bin set in the wrong location they will be provided with an appropriate explanation. This will help them rectify the situation for the next collection.
This facility empowers residents to make ad-hoc council related enquiries on the go, for example when they’re cooking, driving, relaxing etc.
The bin collection service is just the first of many which will be added to a suite of voice enabled, Alexa-based facilities.
