This is an Alexa guided National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) test to help standardize the NIHSS stroke evaluation in hospitals and health institutions. It can also be used as a stroke evaluation educational tool for nurses, hospital staff, physicians and physicians in training.
The skill request users to allow access to the Amazon Alexa email linked to the account. This allows the skill to send you an email with your patient's NIH stroke summary. No email information is stored in the skill and it will not be used for commercial or personal purposes.
Please check your junk box if you did not received an email with your patient's NIH stroke scale. If this was the case, please mark the email as "no spam" and add strokescale@gmail.com to your contact list.
Evidence of use: Lyden and Colleagues modified the Brott's Cincinnati stroke scale in 1994 for the use in the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) study on tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) in patients with ischemic stroke.
The NIHSS is used as a guide for stroke evaluation. A retrospective study of 1281 patients by Adams et al demonstrated that for every 1 point increase in the NIHSS decreased the likelihood of an excellent outcome by 24% at 7 days and 17% at 3 months. This test has also demonstrated to predict outcomes at 1 year.
