Pocket Promises is a skill to help you find renewed strength, encouragement and inspiration on a daily basis from the Word of God. The skill contains a variety of short Bible passages, mostly a single verse or part of a verse, which have been chosen to support you in your journey with God. They are promises from God, about you, your life and your purpose in Him. If you are short on time, you can ask Alexa to read you a scripture, and then contemplate that passage throughout the day. In this way, you can carry it with you in the virtual pocket of your heart and mind. Verses have been carefully selected to cover a range of areas relevant to someone living today who needs to grow in their relationship with Jesus, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. If you are seeking to deepen your relationship with God in a new way, this skill will provide you with the ability to tap into the inspiration of the inspired word of God quickly and easily. All verses are currently from the New King James Version. I have chosen this translation because I believe it has remained as true as possible to the meaning of the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek texts, yet retains a greater level of accessibility than some versions. For ease of hearing, I have added commas to allow the spoken version to more closely reflect the way we would speak the words to ourselves. I will be adding other versions in the future, so if you have a clear preference for a version to be added, please let me know and I will take this into account when building the other options. The Bible says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10 verse 17). I therefore believe that hearing the Word has a different impact than reading alone. This is not to discourage you from your quiet times with the Lord and His word, but to add to them.
Faith in the miracles that can take place within and because of the love of God is built as we hear His promises over our lives. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13 verse 8), and His word endures forever (1 Peter 1 verse 25). I encourage you then, to listen to His Word, and let its truth become a declaration over your life.
