The prisoner's dilemma is a standard example in game theory. It presents a situation where two parties, separated and unable to communicate, must each choose between cooperating with the other or not. The highest reward for each party occurs when both parties choose to cooperate. Yet, individually, betrayer could earn more points. More specifically:
- If they both betray each other, each one gets one point. - If one cooperates whereas the other defects, the latter gets 5 points while the former gets nothing. - If they both cooperate, they each get 3 points.
In a standard 5 round party of this game, the goal is to earn between 15 and 25 points.
