The Syracuse problem (aka Collatz conjecture or the 3n+1 problem) is a problem in mathematics which despite being very easy to explain has never been proved. Take any positive whole number and apply one of two rules. Rule one, If the number is even, divide it by two. Rule two, If the number is odd, multiply by 3 and add 1. Repeat this process until your resulting number is 1. No one has yet found a positive whole number that does not eventually reach 1.
