The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA’s) mission is: helping people before, during, and after disasters. This flash briefing provides a quick overview of official news content, readiness and preparedness material, and other resources developed by FEMA. Users with an Echo Show or any Alexa video device can view short videos that provide key messages developed for our stakeholders. In order for FEMA’s messages to be actionable, they must first be accessible. As an agency that serves communities and survivors, we must reach out to all of those communities and survivors in multiple mediums that serve their needs. The below represent FEMA’s focuses for this flash briefing pilot:
News Releases – users can opt in to receive summaries of the latest news content from the FEMA regions, highlighting our activities across the nation; program updates; disaster resources; and more.
Ready.gov Materials – being prepared for future disasters, and building a culture of preparedness, is a cornerstone of FEMA’s Strategic Plan. This skill can provide preparedness tips, messages, information on terms and hazards, and more to help you prepare for an emergency.
Podcasts – FEMA’s Podcasts are just one example of the ways we are innovating to bring our message to all external stakeholders. By signing up for this skill, users can access summaries of the latest FEMA Podcasts and where to find more information on each.
The FEMA Alexa Skill represents our dedication to meeting our stakeholders – the whole community – where they are, providing them useful and official resources through the mediums and programs they use every day to make their lives easier and ultimately, to help them prepare for disasters and become more resilient.
