Guru Ashtakam, (Sanskrit गुर्वष्टकम् gurvaṣṭakam), also spelled Gurvashtakam, are the Eight Stanzas for worshiping the guru. The Guru Ashtakam Stotram, also called Gurvashtakam Stotra, consists of eight stanzas, hence the name Ashtakam, Eighth, Octet. Guru is the spiritual teacher. Guru Ashtakam Stotram was written by the great Vedanta master Shankaracharya.
Shankaracharya, also known as Adiguru Guru Ashtakam wants to create an attitude of Bhakti, devotion to the Guru, the spiritual teacher. When the disciple meets his guru with devotion, with love, the master can share his knowledge at all levels, transferring his shakti, his energy.
