There are two categories of commands: a general category and a grade-specific category. The general category commands apply to all grades and the grade-specific commands ask for a child's grade level. Below is a brief breakdown of each command as well as an example of how to use it.
General Commands
Command List - "Alexa, ask Hilldale Bot for command list." The command list allows you to proceed through the available commands if you forget what your options are. It also provides more information about each command.
Calendar - "Alexa, ask Hilldale Bot for today's calendar." The Calendar command will tell you about scheduled and afterschool events and times.
School Message - "Alexa, ask Hilldale Bot for the school message." This command will tell you the current front office or principal's announcement.
Kindness Challenge - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to give me the kindness challenge." This command will tell you the current kindness challenge of the week.
Virtue of the Month - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to give me the virtue of the month." This command can help keep you virtuous.
Villain of the Month - "Alexa, ask Hilldale Bot who the villain of the month is." This command reminds you who to watch out for this month.
School Address - "Alexa, ask Hilldale Bot for Hilldale address." If you need the postal address or phone number, this command is here to remind you.
Grade-Specific Commands
Not all grades may be 'active'. If your class has spelling/vocabulary word lists and Hilldale Bot informs you that your class is inactive, please contact me at www.hilldalebot.org if you are willing to provide that list for us to include.
Spelling List - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to give us first grade spelling list." This command will provide you with a list of the current spelling words for your grade.
Spelling Word-by-Word - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to start first grade spelling words." This command starts word-by-word spelling for your grade. To proceed to the next word, say "next word". To hear the word's definition, say "word definition".
Spelling Test - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to start first grade spelling test." This command starts the spelling test for your grade. When given a word,reply by saying "Spelled", followed by the letters needed to correctly spell the word. (e.g., if Hilldale Bot says "pickle", say "Spelled P-I-C-K-L-E".)
Vocabulary Test - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to start vocabulary test for first grade." This command starts a vocabulary test based around your grade's word list. A definition is given, with four different words provided as possible answers. Try to match the right word to the definition.
Class Message - "Alexa, tell Hilldale Bot to give me the first grade class message." This command will return the currently active teacher or room parent message for your grade, if any.
