The great North American school of magic, Ilvermorny, was founded in the seventeenth century. It stands at the highest peak of Mount Greylock, where it is concealed from non-magic gaze by a variety of powerful enchantments, which sometimes manifest in a wreath of misty cloud. There are four houses in this school namely, Thunderbird, Horned Serpent, Pukwudgie and Wampus. Unlike Hogwarts, in Ilvermorny, the houses pick the student. The sorting ceremony takes place in a circular room. The students are asked to step forward onto the Gordian Knot engraved into the marble floor. The school then waits for one of the four wooden cravings, symbols of each creature the house represents, to react. If two houses react, the student has a choice between the two houses.
