Combine the Insteon skill with Alexa to experience the ultimate convenience of voice controlled lighting across your home. Turn lights on or off, set a specific brightness level, and activate scenes – all with your voice. In order to control Insteon devices, you must have the Insteon Hub (#2245 series). To get started, select the “Enable Skill” button in the Alexa App to link your Insteon account and say, “Alexa, discover devices”. If you have any questions or need help, reach out at support@insteon.com or call 866-243-8022
Lighting Controls: To control lights, simply tell Alexa to turn on <device name>: -“Alexa, turn off Bedroom” -“Alexa, set Bedroom to 50%” -“Alexa, dim the reading lights”
Thermostat Controls: To control an Insteon Thermostat, simply say things like: -“Alexa, set the living room thermostat to 75 degrees” -“Alexa, increase the upstairs thermostat temperature by 4 degrees” -“Alexa, decrease the master bedroom thermostat by 2 degrees”
Controlling Groups of Devices: When wanting to control multiple Insteon devices with a single voice command, we recommend creating a scene within the Insteon for Hub app. Doing so will provide an instant response across all scene members. Doing this through the Alexa app (routines), devices are controlled sequentially and may produce a “popcorn effect”.
Controlling Insteon Scenes -If you already have scenes created, there is no need to do anything to start controlling them with Alexa -If a new scene is created you will have to re-run discovery within the Amazon Alexa app, just as you do when adding new devices. -Supported voice control commands: On and Off only. Dim, Bright and Set to % are not supported (of course, you can set these when you create each scene) -Unsupported devices: all access control/security devices (I/O, lock controller, garage control) are automatically suppressed. So if you have scenes that contain actions for any of these types of devices, you will not be able to control the scene with Alexa. -Previously unsupported devices like our ceiling fan controller or the on/off outlet receptacle are controllable via Insteon Scenes. If you are an iOS user and have Sonos integrated, you can now activate scenes containing Sonos speakers. -If a scene and device are named the same or are similar, Alexa will have difficulty knowing which one you want to control. Be sure to use unique names.
