NYC Now

NYC Now is a work-in-progress Alexa Skill that aims to give you a quick glance into your commute in real-time, and also offers you a glimpse into the status of NYC public schools, CUNY schools, alternate-side parking and city garbage collection.

FEATURES
* Check the status of a train.
- "Alexa, ask NYC Now when the next downtown 6 train will arrive at Hunts Point Avenue"
- "Alexa, ask NYC Now when the next D train to the bronx will arrive at columbus circle"
Then, just say "Alexa, ask NYC Now where's my train" to get the status of the last train you requested without needing to repeat yourself.

* Check school status
For New York City public schools, simply ask for example "Alexa, ask NYC Now if school is open tomorrow" or "Alexa, ask NYC Now if school is open next monday".
For CUNY schools, you can similarly ask "Alexa, ask NYC Now if Cuny is open tomorrow" or "Alexa, ask NYC Now if Cuny is open next monday".
For non-public schools, school openings and closings vary on a case-by-case basis and you should refer to your specific school for school closing statuses.

* Check alternate-side parking status
- "Alexa, ask NYC Now if alternate side parking in effect tomorrow"
- "Alexa, ask NYC Now if alternate side parking in effect on friday"

* Check garbage collection status
- Alexa, ask NYC Now is garbage being collected tomorrow?

WHAT'S NEXT

* Check the status of a bus
* Get notified of subway service changes, planned and unplanned affecting your stop
* Get alerts of events that are happening nearby. Simply ask "Alexa, ask NYC Now what's happening in lower manhattan" or "Alexa, ask NYC Now what's happening in bed stuy?"
