103.7 The Connection is physically located in the town of Dickinson, in the southwest corner of North Dakota (USA). We started up the Christian Contemporary format in March of 2018. Our goal is to bring to people a feeling of connection to their families, their community and to Christ. Our music is bringing hope and positive living to a world that is seemingly going crazy; an anchor in the time of storms.
In April of 2017 the station saw it's general manager leave for a job on the east coast. It was at that time the board members saw the opportunity to re-invent the radio station in an attempt to grow the listener base and provide a door for more people to meet Christ. The equipment being used was older and beginning to fail. The financial situation was precarious. The board believed that if God wanted a radio station here, He would provide. In the week after Christmas, 2017, three families approached the new manager and asked if they could donate to the station, which, of course, was not turned away.
The funds were exactly what the station needed to renovate the equipment, hire voice talent, and hire staff for the station. In March of 2018 the new format began to air. Since that time the radio was able to advertise it's existence and gather more listeners through direct word of mouth, billboards in town, and through many of our dedicated pastors.
The radio hosts over 14 local pastors who spend valuable time to come to the station and record a one-minute "Good News" program that brings the scriptures to our listeners. We provided a bulletin insert for each pastor to hand out to their parishioners inviting them to listen to their pastor on air. Each pastor records seven (one week's worth) Good News Verses that are aired one per day, each hour, for the entire day.
This brings more of a community of churches to our listeners.
We have reached into the community to find Non-profit organizations that are working for the betterment of this community. We have partnered with them, giving them a link on our website to connect to their websites. When these organizations host a fund-raising event, or a "giving-back" to the community, we let our listeners know and we pull our community together this way.
We are a non-commercial, non-profit 501c3 entity. As such, we are obligated by the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to follow certain guidelines. We provide educational short features on air. We give free air time to other non-profit entities. We are not allowed to charge for PSAs (Public Service Announcements). Our funds come from donations given by our listeners and supporters.
