Wizard of Oz is an interactive adventure. You are an adventurer who is trapped in the faraway land of Oz, in search of a great Wizard who can return you to Kansas. Along the way, you meet some friends who will help you in your quest, and you will learn something about intelligence, compassion, and bravery—brains, heart, and courage—as you solve puzzles and explore a world using only your words.
Wizard of Oz uses the familiar storyline to set the stage for a series of puzzles and problems that you solve using your wits and your words. Created primarily for young people, Wizard of Oz will prove to be fun for the whole family. Your kids will not only find themselves on a magical journey, they will learn about values that are sought after in the real world—the same things that Scarecrow, Tin Woodsman, and the Lion want so badly. They will put those to work as they solve problems, fight a scary witch, and rescue their companions on their way to the best thing of all—finding their way back home.
The game uses natural language commands. You tell Alexa what you want to do using normal sentences. E.g., "Say 'Wizard of Oz'" or "Pick up the key" or "Use the oilcan." You can ask for help, and Alexa will read you a list of suggested commands that pertain to your current location in the game. If you really get stuck, you can say, "I need a hint" and you will be given a very strong clue about what to do next. The game keeps track of your progress as you go, in case you need to stop to take a break. You can also reset the game and play it from the beginning.
The game sharpens language skills and observation, requiring you to pay attention to the clues then tell Alexa how you want to interact. A wide range of commands is available, though you can ask for help to get hints at every step in the adventure. You can also find a help card you can download and print out at our website, https://daysfly.com/Gaming-Education/Gaming/Wizard-of-Oz
(Be careful not to say THE Wizard of Oz or Alexa will try to locate and play the movie for you. This game is based on L. Frank Baum's book, which is in the public domain.)
