A chopsticks application of man vs. machine. Do you think you can outwit Alexa?
In chopsticks, you and your opponent start with both hands out and one finger extended on each hand. For each move, you can do one of the following:
1) Hit one of your opponent's hands with your own. In that case, your opponent extends a number of fingers equal to the number of fingers in your hand. If they end up extending all of five their fingers, that hand is considered "dead" and goes out of play. To hit your opponent's hand, say something like:
"right hit left"
This means you use your right hand to hit the left hand of your opponent.
2) Redistribute your extended fingers between your hands (a.k.a "split"). An example would be:
"split two one"
This means you redistribute your extended fingers to have two fingers extended on the left hand, and one finger extended on the right hand. This action can be used to "revive" hands that have gone out of play.
Note that splits must actually change the distribution of fingers. Simply swapping the number of extended fingers between hands (e.g. going from three fingers on the left and one finger on the right to one finger on the left and three fingers on the right) is not allowed.
The objective of the game is to "kill" both of your opponent's hands i.e. force them to extend all five fingers on both hands. It might sound simple, but believe me when I say that it is far from trivial. There is a lot of interesting strategy that you will discover as you try to outwit Alexa.
