Learning Scout Stuff

Learning Scout Stuff is a skill to help anyone who wants to learn the various Scouting promises, laws and mottos.

All Scouts, Explorers, Cub Scouts and Beaver Scouts will learn new promises, laws and motto as they progress through the sections within their Group.

Parents, guardians, volunteer helpers, new section leaders and Scouters can all use the skill to refresh their own memory, to better assist the young people as they learn these simple but important concepts.

Use this skill's "learning" mode to help you (or them) practice. Alexa will say the laws etc. aloud in short sentences, and wait just long enough for you to catch up before proceeding.

Alternatively, just have Alexa read out the laws and promises; repetition works well too.

To start the skill, you can say:

"Alexa, start learning Scout stuff"
"Alexa, open learning Scout stuff"
"Alexa, launch learning Scout stuff"

Promises in the skill are the generally accepted core promises. Some local organisations may use alternative wording. See the Scouting UK website for details on alternative promises.

The developer is not affiliated with Scouting UK, but was himself a proud Cub Scout and Scout, and more recently a parent volunteer with the local Scout Group. He is also the parent of two former Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers (both went on to become Leaders). We have not forgotten the promises, laws and mottos described in this skill - those are to be lived by and passed on.
