Series capacitance is simple to calculate once you know how to do it. This skill should help. To calculate the total capacitance of two capacitors in parallel, add the capacitance together. Series capacitance, calculated by this skill, is a little trickier. The formula for two capacitors is: Series Capacitance = (C1 * C2) / (C1 + C2). You should notice that this is the same formula for parallel resistance. You can use this skill to calculate series capacitance for two capacitors. I don't like dividing by zero so avoid capacitors with a value of zero. Everything I do in in microfarads. I doubt you will encounter even a one farad capacitor!
